(West Salem, WI – May 24, 2014) – West Salem’s Steve Carlson won a four-car battle to capture the checkered flag in the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature in front of a packed house.

The fans were on their feet as Carlson led Brad Powell, Ty Majeski and Mike Koeneke bumper to bumper around the track.

Carlson was in the lead with 12 laps to go when Cole Howland spun out on the front stretch bringing out the caution.

Carlson, who had put a gap between himself and the rest of the field, had a tough road ahead as Majeski, Powell and Koeneke surrounded him on the restart.

As the green flag waved Powell quickly moved to pass Majeski for the second spot. He then started to close the gap on Carlson. But Majeski surged forward with two laps to go to try to recapture the second spot and was side by side with Powell when engine trouble set in.

Majeski fell back and Koeneke took over the third position.

Powell again tried to make a run for Carlson, but the checkered flag waved too soon.

Carlson, Powell and Koeneke were nose to tail as they came across the finish line.

Matthew Henderson finished fourth and Shawn Pfaff fifth.

It was a wild finish for Tony Leis and Jimmy Gilster in the Coca-Cola Sportsmen feature.

Leis took the checkered flag, but failed post-race inspection, giving the feature win to Gilster.

Leis grabbed an early lead, but a caution flag mid-race brought the field right back to him. At that point Gilster got the opportunity to jump up to the second spot.

Gilster was on the bumper of Leis for the next eight laps. On the final lap Gilster surged forward and was door handle to door handle with Leis. As the pair were in turn four Leis got loose and was sideways. He was able to correct it, but not before Gilster pulled into the lead.

Right as Leis was able to straighten out his car Gilster got loose on the exit and Leis recaptured the lead, crossing the line just ahead of Gilster.

Greg Scheck was credited the second place finish with Steve Bachman, Jamie Dummer, and Nick Clements rounding out the top five.

Jason Bolster won a caution filled United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature. He was able to fend off both Jordan Myers and Andy Moore who were battling for the lead and finished second and third, respectively.

Wayne Smith outran Jerry Aylsworth and fast-time qualifier Cole Scholze in the first Coca-Cola Outlawz feature of the season.

John Eron had a very dominate car in the first appearance of the United Auto Supply Street Stock division. Eron was the top qualifier and won both the feature and the heat despite some tough competition from Dan Rozek and Taylor Dobbs, who took second and third in the feature.

Get ready for double the action Saturday, May 31 as Klements presents two 20-lap Kwik Trip Late Model features along with the Coca-Cola Sportsmen and United Auto Supply Thunderstox.
